Unit Converter
The unit converter translates values between the metric and imperial systems of measurement. Four categories — length, weight, volume and temperature. Pick a category, enter a number, choose the “from” and “to” units — the result recalculates instantly, right in your browser. Inside each category you will find all the everyday pairs: kilometers and miles, meters and feet, kilograms and pounds, liters and gallons, Celsius and Fahrenheit.
How to use the converter
Step one — select a category with the “Length”, “Weight”, “Volume” or “Temperature” buttons. Step two — enter a value in the “Value” field (decimals work, e.g. 12.5). Step three — pick the source unit in “From” and the target unit in “To”. The result appears immediately in the violet panel on the right, together with the conversion rate “1 unit = X units”. The arrows between the lists swap the units — handy for checking the conversion both ways.
Precision and rounding
The calculation runs at full multiplier precision (mile = 1609.344 meters, pound = 0.45359237 kilograms — exact definitions); rounding happens only for display: one decimal for large numbers and up to four for small rates. That is more than enough for everyday tasks; for engineering work, check your industry standards — they sometimes use shortened values.
Temperature works differently
Length, weight and volume convert with a simple multiplier: the value is multiplied by the source unit’s factor and divided by the target’s. Temperature scales are trickier — they have not only a scale but also a zero point. Hence different formulas: °F = °C × 1.8 + 32, K = °C + 273.15. A fun consequence: −40 °C and −40 °F are the same temperature, and 0 °C is 32 °F and 273.15 K.
US and British measures are not the same
In this converter culinary and household measures are American (marked “US”): a gallon is 3.785 liters, a cup 236.6 milliliters, a tablespoon 14.8 milliliters. The British imperial gallon is larger — 4.546 liters — and the fluid ounce and pint differ too. Convert British recipes with a correction: 1 imperial gallon ≈ 4.55 liters.
